About the role

As an invigilator, you will play a key role in ensuring examinations are conducted fairly, securely, and in accordance with awarding body and JCQ regulations. Working flexibly throughout the year, you will support both written and online examinations, either independently or as part of a team. The role may also involve occasional evening and weekend work, as well as invigilation at outreach centres and other College locations.

Key responsibilities:

  • Prepare examination rooms to ensure appropriate exam conditions are in place.
  • Ensure all examination materials and documentation are prepared and available.
  • Maintain the secure transportation of examination materials between the Exams Office and examination venues.
  • Welcome and support students, helping to create a calm and positive examination environment.
  • Assist with the implementation of access arrangements and special examination requirements.
  • Clearly communicate examination regulations and instructions to candidates.
  • Support the delivery of examinations, including supervising candidates with extra time and other approved arrangements.
  • Undertake duties as a reader or scribe for students where required and appropriately trained.
  • Complete all mandatory training required for the role.
  • Maximise personal availability during peak examination periods where possible.
  • Keep the Exams Manager informed of any changes to availability.

The ideal candidate will have

  • A good general education (five or more GCSEs, including English and Maths, is desirable).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to relate well to both students and staff.
  • Strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and good timekeeping.
  • A calm, professional approach and the ability to remain composed under pressure.
  • Confidence using computers and basic IT systems.
  • Previous experience in teaching, invigilation, customer service, or an educational environment (desirable).
  • The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • An understanding of awarding body regulations and examination procedures (beneficial).
  • A flexible approach to working hours, including occasional evenings and weekends.
  • The ability to travel between College sites when required; access to personal transport is desirable.
