Here at Brockenhurst College, we are looking to recruit a Lecturer in Marine Engineering on a part-time or full-time basis. In return, you will receive a competitive salary of £33,367 - £44,365 per annum (pro rata). (Unqualified teachers £26,436 to £33,367 per annum (pro rata)).  Plus, either an Annual Market Supplement of £2,974 per annum (pro rata if part time) or access to the Targeted Retention Incentive Scheme of £4,000-£6,000 per annum (depending on eligibility).  Applications for both part time (0.8 FTE) and full time (1 FTE) will be considered, please note your preference of hours on your application.

Responsibilities as our Lecturer in Marine Engineering will include:

  • Undertake a teaching commitment as defined by the college, this will include delivering both theory and practical (workshop) classes.
  • Undertake the role of personal tutor and deliver tutorials and conduct progress reviews with students.
  • Promote high attendance across the study programme and follow up all non – attendance and
  • unauthorised absence.
  • Plan, develop and deliver teaching learning and assessment on an agreed range of courses using   appropriate delivery methods which considers learning styles, learning methods and innovative technologies.
  • Mark students work and ensure that feedback is constructive to enable the student to further improve including spelling, grammar, and punctuation as part of the feedback.
  • Pay due attention to the principles of inclusive learning including: individual learning styles, support for students with learning difficulties, and disabilities and extension resources/activities for students of higher ability, general resources, including the use of ICT.
  • Contribute to the design, delivery and future planning of the study programme and take responsibility for specific course organisation and curriculum development work.
  • Manage the delivery of the blended learning curriculum for your course ensuing that students complete the required number of hours as stated in the study programme allocated hours.
  • Promote British Values, Prevent alongside Equality, Diversity and Safeguarding.
  • Develop and maintain effective external links related to the delivery of the subject/course and represent the College at relevant meetings internal and external.

As our Lecturer in Marine Engineering, you’ll ideally have:

  • Level 3 Certificate in Marine Engineering
  • MNTB Workshops Skills Course (or equivalent)
  • GCSE English – Grade 5 and above
  • GCSE Maths – Grade 5 and above
  • The ability to manage learners and learning effectively
  • The ability to develop effective learning resources
  • MCA OOW Certificate of Competency REG111/1 Unlimited
  • Merchant Navy Officer, with a minimum of 12 months’ sea time or Royal Navy Equivalent with a minimum of 12 months watchkeeping
