Workshop Technician
Ready to make a real impact? Use your skills to inspire the next generation through hands-on learning — all in a flexible, rewarding role.
Brockenhurst College is seeking a skilled and enthusiastic Technician to join our team at the Marchwood Construction & Marine Technologies Training Centre. Whether you're an experienced electrician or a qualified technician looking for a change of pace, this role offers a rewarding opportunity to support the next generation of trades professionals. It may also be ideal for someone considering a move into teaching or lecturing, providing a chance to gain valuable experience in an educational environment while making a real impact.
This position is a term-time contract working 37 hours a week during College terms. We would though be pleased to hear from applicants who may wish to consider job-share and / or full year working. Working arrangements will be discussed with shortlisted candidates to establish individual preferences. This flexibility makes the role ideal for those seeking a better work-life balance or wishing to align their working pattern with the academic calendar.
What you’ll do:
- Assist lecturers and students during practical lessons, ensuring a safe, productive learning environment.
- Organise and maintain tools, equipment, and teaching resources for electrical installation
- Support students in their practical assessments and provide one-to-one mentoring where necessary
- Ensure all activities and resources comply with relevant health, safety and electrical standards
- Maintain the workshop and wider site, including managing stock levels, ordering supplies, and carrying out general maintenance to ensure a well-equipped and efficient learning environment
What we’re looking for:
- Experience in electrical installations, marine engineering, or relevant workshop practices is not essential, we’re looking for someone who can bring practical experience to the role. If you do have relevant experience, that’s great, but it’s by no means a requirement
- Good knowledge of Health & Safety requirements
- Competent, organised, adaptable, and able to work collaboratively with staff and students
- A positive, can-do attitude and a willingness to support wherever needed, including assisting teaching staff during sessions. Confident in being the eyes and ears on the ground to help maintain a safe, supportive, and productive working environment
- Proactive in ensuring the workshop and wider site are well maintained at all times, carrying out daily maintenance duties and supporting larger maintenance tasks during term breaks as required
What we’ll do for you:
- Competitive salary
- 25 days annual leave plus Bank Holidays and up to 5 additional days over the Christmas closure (dependent on working arrangements)
- Local Government Pension Scheme, with option for enhanced contributions
- Access to Employee Assistance Programme (EAP)
- Free eye care vouchers
- Access to a range of discounts, including shopping, travel and healthcare
- Free onsite car parking
