Emotional and Wellbeing Support Officer

The Emotional and Well-being Support Officer role is a challenging and exciting opportunity for a highly motivated, experienced individual who is able to support students with complex emotional health and behavioural needs. S/he will have a key role in supporting the progress of students requiring additional support, to help with the daily management of their emotional health, whilst working alongside Heads of Curriculum, Student Support Managers, Intensive Support Officer, nurses, counsellors and LDD Co-ordinator, to provide appropriate targeted support.  S/he will liaise closely with the learners Student Support Managers and academic staff in particular, to provide a first point of contact for immediate emotional support and implementation of appropriate interventions. The post will report to the Pastoral and Welfare Manager.

The successful candidate will have a proven track record of success in supporting students with complex emotional and well-being needs, and the ability to work with parents/guardians in supporting young people. As a College, we are dedicated to ensuring the highest quality learning experience for all learners, and so a sound knowledge of equality and diversity, safeguarding and all policies and procedures relating to student welfare, is essential. It would be beneficial to have experience of working with multi-agency teams and/or social workers and liaising with emotional/mental health agencies. S/he will need to work on an individual mentoring basis for those highly vulnerable students, and liaise with outside agencies appropriately. There will also be a requirement to manage a safe ‘space’ where students can access immediate support and ‘time-out’, and to run additional support workshops. The role will also be part of the College safeguarding team.

This role would suit an individual able to demonstrate a supportive, empathetic and positive approach, with a strong commitment to working with students, showing sensitivity towards their needs. The successful candidate will be able to work effectively with all students who have emotional and behavioural needs, whilst having patience and a sense of humour. Punctuality, reliability and good administrative and organisational skills will be key in this post.

Student Support Manager

The College is seeking to appoint into new pastoral support roles to provide pastoral support for our students.

Under the direction of the Pastoral and Welfare Manager, and in liaison with Heads of Curriculum, the main duties will include working with and supporting a cohort of approximately 275 students, to deliver tutorials, provide pastoral and academic support and where applicable UCAS support for university applications.

You will focus upon learner retention and success by providing regular 1-1 support to enable learners to access all aspects of the College curriculum. You will contribute to the College achieving excellent levels of student retention and achievement by tracking and monitoring learner’s academic progress, attendance and welfare concerns. In addition you will identify learners who are giving cause for concern, and support learners to achieve their full potential, through appropriate mentoring, and pastoral and personal development activities delivered via the weekly tutorial session.

You will specifically work with at risk students within your cohort, as identified through reports, or referred by teaching staff, by agreeing and monitoring performance contracts, and liaising with curriculum heads, welfare support staff, teaching staff, parents and external agencies, as required. You will also be required to maintain close links with the curriculum head regarding the attendance and performance of students and take appropriate action. You will play a lead role in ensuring the effective delivery of the tutorial and next steps programme, and the effective use of College systems for monitoring attendance and performance, liaising closely with the attendance advisors. An important part of the role will be to identify and agree actions in support of ‘at risk’ students with teaching staff in your curriculum area.

In addition, you will be required to provide support with student personal statements and job related documents, as well as UCAS applications and references as required.

The successful applicants will have relevant experience in working successfully with young people, and preferably with experience of personal tutoring. The aim is to ensure a holistic approach in supporting the academic and well-being needs of all students in your cohort.

Administrative Assistant for Highwood Nursery

We are looking for an enthusiastic and competent administrative assistant with excellent IT and customer care skills to support our management team in the operation of our large, busy and successful Nursery, situated in the beautiful New Forest. We are an integral part of Brockenhurst College.

You will need to be able to liaise and communicate well with parents, children and colleagues, both in person and through a variety of media. You will need to be competent in all areas of administrative work including money handling and data management. Ideally you will be competent with the use of all Microsoft office programs including Word, Publisher, Excel, Outlook and Access, as well as website publicity. Some experience with bespoke data management systems would be beneficial.

You will need to be highly motivated, proactive and have a good sense of humour with an ability to work in a busy and sometimes noisy office environment! You will have good use of initiative and be able to work flexibly and prioritise workloads to meet deadlines. You will have a high regard for the safety and wellbeing of the children in our care, including safeguarding, while ensuring confidentiality is maintained at all times.

You need to be flexible and adaptable, and enjoy supporting and working with a friendly and enthusiastic staff team.

College Nurse
